Description of the business:
This modern orchard farm has an area of 217,000 sq.m. and was built in 2005. It consists of a 212,000 sq.m. orchard planted with Morello cherries, 4,000 sq.m. of vineyards and 1,000 sq.m. of other fruits – plums, apples, etc.
The cherry orchard is planted with quality saplings of Morello cherries. There is also a modern drip irrigation system in place. The orchard is looked after by a qualified team including a professional agronomist. The farm also has all the machinery and equipment to maintain it all year round – a tractor, plant protection systems, etc. Due to the modern systems and technologies used in the making of this farm its maintenance needs minimal staff and resources. The full-time staff consists of 4 people and during the harvest people from the nearby villages are hired to pick the fruit. The first crop from the orchard was picked in 2009 – about 70 tons. In the next years the harvest will increase constantly as the trees were planted in 2005 and are still young. In 2012 the crop is expected to reach 100-120 tons of harvest.
The farm is set in close proximity to a middle-sized village due to which there is easy access to water for irrigation, electricity, good asphalt road as well as workers. The bigger regional city is located less than 10 km away which means that plant protection specialists, agronomists and other staff members can access the orchard easily and the produce can be transported fast to the end client.
The current owner will provide the buyer with the necessary assistance during the first year after the sale so that the organization and development of the orchard can be kept. The new owner could be an investor who will not be directly involved in the work on the farm as the management functions can be delegated to a local professional which our company will recommend.
Financial data of the enterprise
The business is profitable and generates approx. 10% annual return of the capital. In 2011 the whole amount of harvest 80 000 kg. has been sold to trading companies at the price of 0.44 € Euro/kg. The fixed annual costs are approx. 10 300 € Euro. The profit for 2011 is 24 900 € Euro.
