YORDAN LECHKOV OPENED A GOLF PLAYGROUND IN THE TOWN OF SLIVEN

On Monday, the Mayor of Sliven Mr. Yordan Lechkov (and former player at the National Football Team) opened the second golf playground in Bulgaria. The sports center is owned by “Air Sofia” Company, which already runs the first similar playground near the town of Ihtiman.

The Company purchased the land at the end of July 2003. According to unofficial data, the investments made are up to 1.5-2 million BGN. The construction of the golf playground, which has a total area of 500 decares, was completed for nine months. The Complex offers a series of 18 holes, standard scratch score – 71, training golf playground and green for practicing the strokes. The Sports center is equipped with a modern automatic system for watering the whole playground.

The playground in Sliven is the first released project of “Golf Creations”. The Join Venture Company was established with a bilateral contract between “Air Sofia” and the Spanish company “El Plantio”, which is offering golf tourism in Alicante. For the golf playground in Sliven, the Spanish Company will secure foreign visitors, exchange of personnel and training of specialists.

The Bulgarian Federation of Golf is in the process of working out a strategy for construction golf playgrounds on the territory of the entire country. This was announced during the Building and Investments Forum which took part in the city of Sofia in the middle of May by Mr. George Ivanov, the chairman of the federation. According to the ex-cosmonaut, the golf tourism in Bulgaria will have future if there are more than one such center in the country.
