This week is the annual Spring Fair at the Plovdiv International Fair. So far visitors have been entertained by a musical dance troupe, a staged fight between ' medieval knights', a reconstruction of Plovdiv old town in miniature and a heavily guarded exhibition of archaeological artefacts from prehistoric times. As well as this there is the usual exhibitions for the new product launches which include stands for new style modern kitchens, bedroom suites, motorbikes, window blinds and mobile phones, amongst many others.
A visit to the Plovdiv International Fair can never ever be described as boring, there is always something on offer for everybody. This week is no exception, visitors as soon as they enter are treated to a rendering of musical

hits from proffessional singers and dancers who also sing some of their numbers in English. Moving further in to the exhibition you could be forgiven for thinking that you have gone to the wrong place when you see three heavily armoured figures wielding axes engaged in a mock battle fight. There is more, you get a pleasant suprise when you enter one dimly lit stand which exhibits reconstruction models of famous Plovdiv buildings and landmarks. The best has to be the Roman ruins and amphitheatre from the old town. Just by the main entrance is an exhibition of archeological finds, dating from 300 BC. Many of them are made of solid gold and it is no wonder that they are heavily guarded and the use of photography equipment is not allowed.

There is the usual exhibition stands for new product launches but there are unusual ones like the one for Italian style scooters - the type that are usually seen on every main road in Rome - perhaps this trend could catch on in Plovdiv. Whilst you are moving in and around the many exhibition stands there are also plenty of places where you can get something to eat and if you wanted to go to some where special there is a good restaurant situated opposite the Internation Fair on the other side of the main road called the Adissa. You can get a Bulgaria style food at very reasonable prices. One meal that is very good is the salmon and boiled potatoes cooked in butter, which only costs 8 BG levs.
So if you want a day out with a difference why not visit Plovdiv International Fair, which is open all year round, demonstrating the latest products and services that are going to be on offer in the not too distant future.
