Plovdiv International Fair

2006-10-04   |  John Lindley, Bulgarian Properties, Plovdiv office, 22nd March 2006

As well as being a tourist centre. Plovdiv is also a reknowned industrial and commercial centre. The Plovdiv International Fair is a means by which to show the rest of Bulgaria, and indeed the rest of the world the importance of its’ developing industries. Numerous shows and exhibitions are presented here through out the year from Christmas bazaars to agricultural fairs. On the week starting the 13 March there was the Winery exhibition which was of special interest to wine lovers from all over the world.

Situated on the tree lined northern banks of the Maritza river and only 10 minutes by foot from the centre of Plovdiv it is easily accessible by

businessmen and tourists alike. The Vinaria exhibition has a special appeal not only to Bulgarians, especially Plovdivians, but also visitors as well.

The Winery exhibition, like most other fairs held here was also open to the general public. At a cost of 3BGN many visitors attended the official opening of the Winery exhibition, on the 15 March, and took part in the many seminars and demonstrations on offer. On the 16 March there was a demonstration spoken in English on the benefits of the Bulgarian wine culture. Afterwards you were then treated to a live performance of folklore songs and dances – not bad for 3 BGN’S! Those that attended the opening ceremony also witnessed

the ‘spilling of water’ which is the traditional way for opening the Vinaria exhibition which first opened in 1993. On the last day there was plenty of entertainment featuring dancers, singers and comedians at one of the exhibitors stands.

When you visit the International Fair you will not be disappointed. It has numerous halls, stalls and stands and whilst there you will have the opportunity for food and drink, there are a few cafes within the park offering a good selection of beveridges. If you decided to buy a property in Plovdiv you could attend as many fairs as you liked, all year round.
