Ski instructors in Pamporovo carry snow with blankets

Maritsa Daily, 18th January 2007

The ski instructors in Pamporovo are trying to save the season. After working time, they carry snow on blankets and spades to the snowless parts of the working racing tracks. The tow-lifts of the low parts are mounted on the peak, and now three of them can be used on Snejanka, instead of only one. The white sports training shall also be transferred there. Despite the lack of snow, there is 20-cm snow cover on the high parts. Every single moment of appropriate minus temperatures is used for working with the five equipments for artificial snow, which is evenly spread over the route.

The trampled snow on the north ground near “Malina”, at the beginning of the old one-seat lift also satisfies only the beginners. There is no refusal of reservations – said Lyubomir Sankiiski - Director of the ski school. The latest transfer of 2000 tourists, most of them Irishmen and Englishmen arrived during the weekend. The beginners are satisfied with the good professional qualification and the approach of the ski instructors. The usual ski vacation of the foreigners lasts for 6 days. Only few of them would rather go on excursions instead of skiing. They take great interest in traveling to the Trigrad gorge with viewing of the caves and stopping in Shiroka Laka - the village-reserve for old Rhodopes architecture.

Lisa Carlson from Ireland spends her winter vacation together with her husband in the Bulgarian resorts for the seventh time. They have been to the Rhodopes 5 times so far. They do not mind the lack of snow. They will keep on visiting Bulgaria, since they have a lot of fun here.

A noisy group of young Russians is also satisfied with the conditions offered and does not miss the snow. They are taking pictures after the skiing day. What they appreciate most are the merrymakers that guarantee real entertainment.

The growth of the Irish, English and Russian market is obvious. The Irish tour operators are already 6 (there was only 1 before), 5 tour operators work with Pamporovo in Great Britain, and three – in Russia. This is a result of the good company policy of offering ski packages.

The chartered flights to Plovdiv Airport ensure many foreign tourists for Pamporovo. If they had to arrive in Sofia, they would have chosen the near-by Borovets or Bansko. The traditional Bulgarian things that could not be seen anywhere else are another real attraction. For instance - the folk-style atmosphere in “Bulgarian Village” where every night a family of fire-dancers from Burgas Region dances on live coals; the live music of Bulgarian musicians whose performances always cause unforgettable atmosphere.

There are swimming pools, saunas, fitness halls, SPA centers, and a casino, bowling halls, billiard tables. Tourists can enjoy the swimming pool of “Perelik” against 8 leva. Three visits cost 21 leva, and 30 visits cost 129 leva. In the SPA center of “Murgavets”, a great variety of massage programmes are offered, as well as extras with the newest cosmetic products “Dr. Shpiller”, or with stones, bamboo, honey, chocolate… treatment of cellulite, stress or other diseases is done through medically motivated programmes.
