Ecotourism in Bulgaria

The Sofia Echo, 29th May 2006

The ecotourism sector in Bulgaria will face increased foreign tourist interest this summer season. Close to 30 groups of Spanish and French tourists have already booked summer vacations in the Vrachanski Balkan Nature Park. The five guest houses in the region offer opportunities for rural and ecotourism. The aim would be to develop alternative tourism in this north Bulgarian region. The tourist packages for eco and rural tourism were first proposed seven years ago. The offer usually includes a night and dinner in a local village house, mountain tracking and introduction to the village lifestyle. More than 1500 tourists had already visited the rural tourism sites of Pavlovche and Zgorigrad last summer. Since then, Vrachanski Balkan also offers cruise tourism with group sailing on the Danube River.
