Yachting Tourism in Bulgaria Gaining Development Speed

To plough the blue waves of the Black sea on board of a luxury yacht…to berth in a nestling bay or anchor at a modern marina, just to enjoy the fascinating nature around, and the local architecture in the vicinities… to have a romantic candle dinner on board of a nice sailing boat…these are just part of the numerous temptations for yachtsmen, coming to enjoy sailing in beautiful Bulgaria.

During summer they sail all over the Black Sea in search of adventures and new sensations. The Black sea travels bring many yacht lovers to the Bulgarian Coastline, which offers excellent opportunities for yachting tourism.

A number of Bulgarian Black Sea resorts and vacation complexes constructed marinas during the past few years in Bulgaria. The attractive yacht ports and the berthed international yachts, showing different national flags definitely bring more colour and interest to the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The Northern Black Sea coast of Bulgaria offers more yacht ports, compared to the Southern coastline. The best and the most equipped marina along the Northern seaside is that of Golden Sands Resort.

At this point there is a very big investors’ interest for construction and developing of yacht ports along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The Bulgarian Sailing Federation make prognosis that during the next 3 to 10 years Bulgaria will have 15 new marinas with total berthing capacity between 2 000 and 4 000 yachts and boats. Recently the first yachting centre in Bulgaria opened doors in Bourgas. A nice and comfortable yacht starts from 30 000 EUR.

According to the industry companies and specialists, at the very moment the yachting market in Bulgaria is going through a real boom. The vessels, which are at the top sellers list and are usually preferred by the yachtsmen, are the yachts and boats up to 200 000 EUR. There are more wealthy customers, though, who will count much more for an expensive luxury “toy”. From the beginning of this summer season, the yacht centre in Bourgas has sold 5 “Azimut” boats, keeping in mind that the “Azimut” brand is one of the most luxurious yacht brands in the world. The owners of those “sea traveling villas” enjoy real home comfort and luxury. Such yachts have a large living room, from 5 to 7 luxury bedrooms, kitchen, bathrooms, satellite TV, Jacuzzis and many other extras.

Momchil Nikolov, one of the owners of the yacht centre in Bourgas says: “The things are always happening together. Bulgaria started constructing more marinas – an interest in yachting investments appeared. Then people started buying still more yachts and boats. The only problem is that the tourist yachting season is shorter; it cannot reach 6-8 month as in Greece and Croatia, for example. The modern yachts, offered at the Bulgarian market though, have local heating and air-conditioning and thanks to that, the yachting season can reach 5-6 months at least. With the modern luxurious yachts, the adventurers can start a cruise to Greece or Istanbul and have a lot of fun on board. On the whole, the yachting in Bulgaria can be developed a lot, big investments are on the way, and if so, Bulgaria is to become a competitive yachting destination.
