A Hot Summer’s Day In Plovdiv

Bulgarian Poperties - Plovdiv, 13th June 2006

You get out of bed and you feel the heat straight away, you know that it is going to be one of those hot balmy days, especially when your staying in Plovdiv, Bulgarias second largest city. The weather is very hot in this region and it gets really hot during the months of July and August. However not everybody goes running in to the shade. Many people decide to go swimming, rowing, cycling or visit Plovdiv zoo.

Plovdiv has plenty to offer during the hot summer months and none more so than the Greben Kanal. Situated at the west end of the city it has facilities for rowing, canoeing, wide paths for cyclists and a swimming pool, the Neptun. Next to the pool is a restaurant built in the shape of a ships galley. So after a long cool swim you can enjoy a good meal. The fish dishes here are very reasonably priced and there are also plenty of side dishes like salads to choose from. You can have a good meal for here about 5 BG levs and entry to the swimming pool is 3 BG levs. There are not many places where you can have a day out for less than 3 British pounds!

While strolling along the Greben Kanal you see many people on bikes, some of them are quite mature – there seems to be no age barrier when it comes to the warm weather. Also there are many people sitting on the many benches that are situated along the canal busily chattering in the mid day sun without an apparent care in the world. Moving along next to the canal there is a small zoo which is free of charge which houses deer, bison and foxes amongst others. Moving along a little further you will come across a footbridge with an eye catching design and which has an unusual dip in the middle.

In the unlikely event of rain or unbearable heat there is always the Novotel Hotel, situated on the banks of the Maritza River and opposite the famous Plovdiv International Fair. A visit here is definitely worthwhile there is a swimming pool, sauna and multi gym which is open to non residents at reasonable prices. If you had a property here you might decide to buy a monthly ticket making it even cheaper.

Buying a property in the Plovdiv region, especially as a holiday home is not only a good idea but it could also be a wise investment in the long term. There are many types of property to choose from especially in the rural regions of Plovdiv were the cost is considerably less due to being some distance away from the centre of the city. However despite this there is a good travel network linking the whole of the region. So wherever you live in the region the city is always accessible. So maybe now is the time to take a good look at Plovdiv and what it has to offer before property prices here start to go up.
