New Sports & Tourism Centre set up in Berkovitsa

Berkovitsa municipality and Glavbolgarstroy would work on a new sports and tourism centre in Berkovitsa and under Kom peak in Stara Planina Mountain.

The centre should be completed by 2016, Darik Radio said.

Berkovitsa municipality will participate in the project providing 75 000 sq m of land. Glavbolgarstroy will invest funds and will possess 51 per cent of the project.

The new sports and tourism centre will consist of variety of hotels in three zones - in Berkovitsa, at 1500 m altitude and at 1600 m altitude in the mountain. The centre will accommodate 4500 people.

Existing ski tracks would be widened and new ones as well as a biathlon range would be build, Darik said.

Berkovitsa mayor Milcho Dotsov said that the existing ski track would be extended from in the spring of 2007 and a new chair lift would start functioning. Investment would reach more than two million euro, he said.
