German retailer Kaufland opens store in Varna

German discount retailer Kaufland will inaugurate this week an outlet in Varna, on the Black Sea, the company's 5th store launch in less than 2 months.
The 8 mln euro hypermarket is located in an area that will soon accommodate the city's first Western-style shopping center, Mall Varna.
Kaufland plans to open outlets in Yambol, Sliven and Vratsa by the end of 2006 and a second store in Sofia.
Local Kaufland manager Dimitar Spasov said recently the company is shopping around for store sites in Sofia and has already picked the Ovcha Kupel residential district as a definite location.
The first Kaufland store in Bulgaria opened in March in Plovdiv, the nation's second biggest city. The retailer opened its first store in Sofia in July. That was followed by launches in Ruse and Haskovo.
