Flights from UK to Bulgaria

www.uknetguide.co.uk

With Bulgaria emerging as a leading property investment destination among Britons, the number of cheap flights offered between the UK and the capital of Sofia has increased significantly over the past few years.

From London, direct flights to Sofia can be caught from Heathrow and Luton airports, with this choice helping to keep airline ticket prices relatively low all year-round.

Regular international flights also depart from Manchester Airport, thereby giving travellers from the north of England easy links with the Bulgarian capital.

Meanwhile, a number of charter flights also leave the UK for Sofia. These depart from Belfast International, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Manchester and Newcastle, though services can be limited.

Airlines flying from the UK to Sofia

Both Bulgaria Air and British Airways fly between London and Sofia on a daily basis, with this competition keeping e-ticket prices relatively low.

Also offering links from the UK are budget carriers easyJet and Wizz Air, with these airlines joined by Monarch and BH Air on an occasional basis throughout the year.

Any stop-overs?

Due to the shortness of the flight times from the UK to Sofia, no stop-overs are necessary or even offered by the airlines operating the route.

Things to see and do in Sofia

As one of the oldest cities in the whole of Europe, Sofia makes for a fascinating destination for history lovers.

Among the highlights of a short visit are a trip to Saints Cyril and Methodius National Library which is the country's oldest cultural institution, as well as the UNESCO Heritage Site-rated Boyana Church and the magnificent Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, one of the biggest Eastern Orthodox churches in the world.

For those more interested in the present than the past, Vitosha Boulevard boasts some world-beating shopping, with small boutiques lining up next to global designers, while most hotels in Sofia are within walking distance of a mehani, or traditional Bulgarian pubs.

Outside of the city, both locals and holidaymakers head to the tranquil Lake Pancharevo just a few miles away, while the Vitosha Nature Park also represents an idyllic break from the hustle and bustle of downtown Sofia.
