Concession Procedure for three ports and an airport in Bulgaria launched this year

The Sofia Echo, 18th September 2006

By the end of the year Bulgaria would launch concession procedures for three port terminals and one airport.

The port terminals Varna North, the Vidin central port and the port in Lom would be offered on concession. An airport in Rousse would undergo the same procedure, Transport Minister Petar Moutafchiev said.

A Council of Ministers decision concerning the Rousse airport is expected in November, Bulgarian news agency BTA reported. The airport used to be former military base and has been out of use for the past 15 years.

According to plans the airport would be used for cargo traffic as well as for low cost passenger flights.

One foreign investor already expressed interest in the acquisition of the Rousse airport, BTA reported.

A decision on the concession of the port terminals is expected in December. Both Bulgarian and foreign investors already said they were interested in the facilities.
